Red Sox And Blue Jays Leading Race To Sign All-Star Power Hitter

The Boston Red Sox are still in the hunt for a power hitter this offseason, despite missing out on some earlier opportunities.

The Red Sox, facing the potential loss of Justin Turner in free agency, have been actively searching for a slugger to strengthen their lineup. One of their initial targets, Teoscar Hernández, slipped through their grasp when he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Now, the focus has shifted to another All-Star, Jorge Soler, who could be an ideal fit for the Red Sox’s needs. Soler is a right-handed batter with the kind of power Boston is looking for. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, both the Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays are the frontrunners to acquire Soler.

Heyman commented, “Jorge Soler, I think Boston and Toronto are the teams that are most likely at the moment.” However, he also noted that the situation is fluid, and things can change. It appears that Soler won’t return to the Miami Marlins, where he spent the last two seasons.

Soler had an outstanding 2023 season, earning his first All-Star selection. He delivered 36 home runs, 75 RBIs, and an impressive .250/.341/.512 slash line in 137 games played.

With the need to bolster their lineup with a power hitter, the Red Sox will have to act quickly if they want to secure Soler’s services. The competition is fierce, and time is of the essence in the MLB offseason.
