Polarizing Coach Goes To Great Lengths To Toughen-Up Team

Amazingly, we are just TWO weeks away from the start of the 2024 college football season.

While there are only a few games in “Week 0,” the biggest matchup (by far) will take place across the pond in Dublin, Ireland.

Fresh off getting screwed over a season ago, the Florida State Seminoles will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an impactful ACC clash.

In an attempt to ramp up the intensity and overall toughness of his squad, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell has made a bold decision to turn off the air conditioning inside the team’s facility.

It’s a smart move by Norvell and one right out of the old-school. (Bear Bryant and the Junction Boys would be proud.)

“We’re aiming to make things a little harder, a little tougher,” Norvell explained of his decision. “We’re constantly looking for opportunities to push our team to choose the hard path and improve.

“We’ve been missing that outdoor heat, the sun beating down, the high humidity. We might get some of that tomorrow. I wanted to give the guys a bit of a ramp-up.”

Norvell’s bright approach is part of a broader strategy to acclimate his team to uncomfortable situations as they gear up for the 2024 season.

There’s no doubt Norvell and the Seminoles will have an extra chip on their shoulders this season.

Whether or not you agree with the CFB Playoff Committee’s decision to keep them out of the dance last year, it sure was an awfully bitter pill for the undefeated Noles to swallow.

With the playoff field finally expanded to 12-teams, Florida State is certainly expected to compete for a spot.

For now, Norvell and the Noles are solely focused on the season opener against Georgia Tech. ESPN’s College GameDay will be on site in Dublin for the matchup.

Speaking of ESPN, they just announced their theme song for this season’s college football coverage. Step aside Imagine Dragons, because it will be Jelly Roll and his new single “Get By” which will be featured in ESPN’s promotion of the sport.

“There’s a strong connection between music and college football, and for over a decade, ESPN’s college football anthem has been a key part of the sport’s promotion, symbolizing the unofficial start of the season,” said Curtis Friends, ESPN’s vice president of marketing.

“Jelly Roll is a talented, award-winning artist whose music resonates with the passion of college football fans nationwide. We’re thrilled that ‘Get By’ will be the soundtrack for the sport throughout the season,” he added.

Getting back to Norvell, what are your thoughts on his no-AC tactic?

Of course, there was a time not too long ago when this type of strategy was commonplace. (I don’t think Woody Hayes was a big fan of comfortable tempatures.)

How about Florida State in the big picture? … What are your expectations for the Noles this season???
