When it comes to NFL history, Peyton Manning is certainly a Mount Rushmore quarterback.
But how does Manning himself rank the top current quarterbacks in the NFL?
Appearing at the massive Fanatics event over the weekend in New York City, Manning revealed who he believes are the top 5 quarterbacks in the league.
Manning’s list consists of the following…
#1. Patrick Mahomes
#2. Joe Burrow
#3. Justin Herbert
#4. Lamar Jackson
#5. Josh Allen
Unsurprisingly, Manning’s pick for top dog in the NFL is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“Quarterbacks need to be coached hard. Andy Reid coaches Patrick Mahomes hard. That’s good for Patrick, but that’s bad for NFL defenses,” Manning said of the three-time Super Bowl champion.
Manning made it clear just how much he respects and admires Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow who came in second in his ranking.
“I’m a big fan of Joe Burrow,” Manning said. “I’m glad to see him back healthy. I like the way he carries himself. He doesn’t sweat. He doesn’t flinch. He’s kind of calm and cool the whole time.”
Manning’s selection of Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert for the third spot surprised some people. However, Manning is just one of the many who feel that Herbert has all the tools to be the NFL’s best QB.
“This Justin Herbert is as talented as anybody. He can throw it a mile. The Broncos’ division is gonna be tough,” Manning said.
Next up is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in the four spot. Manning pointed out just how rare and unique of a talent the two-time MVP is.
“Lamar Jackson does things that just don’t seem possible with the football in his hands. He makes throws, he runs, and he protects himself too. I never could run, so I never had that problem,” Manning said.
Rounding out Manning’s top 5 is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. While virtually everyone recognizes just how special of a talent Allen is, there’s no denying he needs to help the Bills crack through in the playoffs.
“Josh Allen is a total stud. Tough. I saw him this summer. He is so motivated to bring a championship to Buffalo.”
