Patrick Mahomes Opens Up About Just How Underpaid He Is

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, widely regarded as a top-two quarterback in the NFL, has witnessed other QB’s, such as Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa, secure lucrative contract extensions recently.

Despite the increasing figures in these deals, Mahomes doesn’t feel slighted by his own $45 million average annual value contract, which has slipped down the list of the NFL’s biggest contracts.

In an interview with USA Today, Mahomes expressed his positive view on the new contracts being signed by his peers.

“It’s awesome for the game of football,” Mahomes said. “It’s awesome for the quarterback position, but I think all positions.”

Addressing the frequent comparisons to his contract, Mahomes remained unbothered.

“I know every time a contract comes up, everybody looks at my APY and everything like that. I’m doing pretty well myself,” he said.

“For me, it’s just about going out there trying to win football games, trying to make money for my family at the end of the day. I feel like I’m doing a great job of that,” he added.

Needless to say, Mahomes has a phenomenal attitude about the whole situation. Despite being in the spotlight constantly, he has virtually never made a public misstep with an action or comment.

In addition to his substantial NFL earnings, Mahomes also benefits significantly from endorsement deals, ensuring his financial stability will never be a problem.

Having said that, it’s clear that he’s “underpaid” if you purely compare his figures against others around the league.

Time will tell if we see some sort of restructuring of his deal.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will kick-off the 2024 season when they take on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium.

What type of contract do you think Mahomes is truly deserving of???
