Oregon Coach Dan Lanning Firmly Declares He Won’t Depart From Ducks

Oregon coach Dan Lanning swiftly dismissed any speculation linking him to the coaching vacancy at Texas A&M, affirming on Monday that there is “zero chance” he departs from the Ducks.

Addressing reporters, Lanning, now in his second year at Oregon, asserted his commitment to the program, emphasizing that everything he desires is already present at Oregon. With a current record of 19-4 and Oregon ranked sixth in the College Football Playoff standings, Lanning’s focus is on the unfinished business with the Ducks.

In July, Oregon demonstrated their commitment to Lanning by extending his contract through the 2028 season, accompanied by a substantial raise to $7 million annually and a $20 million buyout in case he considered leaving.

“I’m not going anywhere. There’s zero chance that I would be coaching somewhere else,” Lanning stated confidently. “I’ve got unfinished business here… We have the resources, the tools; anybody that can’t understand why you would want to be at this place doesn’t understand exactly what exists here.”

Lanning, 37, has enjoyed a successful stint at Oregon, securing a prominent position in the Pac-12 and currently holding the sixth spot in the College Football Playoff rankings. His coaching journey includes a pivotal role as Georgia’s defensive coordinator, contributing to the Bulldogs’ national title in 2021.

While past Oregon coaches have departed for other opportunities, Lanning emphasized that he won’t be following suit. Oregon’s commitment to providing the necessary resources for championship contention and creating an ideal environment for his family has solidified Lanning’s dedication.

“A lot of coaches… don’t say anything, one, because they don’t want egg on their face when they decide to do something else; two, because they’re concerned about things that I’m not concerned about, like getting a better contract,” Lanning explained. “I’m taken care of extremely well here at Oregon. I have the resources I need here to be really, really successful. I’m not motivated by that. I’m motivated by winning.”
