MLB Rumors: Yankees Unlikely To Secure Blake Snell, But Chance Remains

As spring training approaches, the MLB free agent market still includes notable pitcher Blake Snell, and the New York Yankees have expressed interest in him. The delay in Snell joining the American League East division team revolves around financial negotiations. MLB insider Jon Heyman highlighted that there’s currently a gap in their financial expectations.

While it may seem that the door to the Yankees is closed for Snell, Heyman doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of future discussions and a potential contract agreement. While it’s uncertain if Snell and the Yankees will resume talks, there remains a glimmer of hope for a future deal.

The Yankees have already extended an offer to Snell, but rumors suggest that Snell is seeking a higher amount, roughly $100 million more than what New York initially proposed. Regardless of whether Snell joins the Yankees, the team has been active in free agency, notably signing former Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman. Additionally, the Yankees have been involved in trade rumors related to pitchers such as Dylan Cease, Jesús Luzardo, and Shane Bieber.

Blake Snell aims to capitalize on his impressive 2023 season, where he achieved Cy Young Award recognition. During that season with the San Diego Padres, he made 32 starts, concluding with a 14-9 record, a remarkable 2.25 ERA, an 182 ERA+, and a 3.44 FIP.
