Michigan Quarterback Jack Tuttle Pursuing Seventh Year of College Eligibility

Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle, despite the recent national championship victory, has expressed his desire to return for another season by seeking a seventh year of eligibility from the NCAA.

Tuttle, who served as J.J. McCarthy’s backup in 2023, made appearances in six games for the Wolverines but faced setbacks due to two different arm injuries, including a dislocated shoulder.

Having previously played four seasons at Indiana, Tuttle brings experience to the table. During most of his time there, he served as the backup to Michael Penix Jr., the starting quarterback in last season’s national championship game.

Despite the current depth chart placing Alex Orji at the top after McCarthy’s decision to enter the NFL Draft, Tuttle, with his extensive background, aims to compete for the starting quarterback position next season if granted an additional year.

While awaiting the NCAA’s decision on his eligibility, Tuttle remains optimistic. He recognizes recent cases, such as Oklahoma’s Casey Thompson and former Michigan quarterback Alan Bowman, who were granted a seventh year, often due to past injuries and redshirt seasons.

Reflecting on his potential return after the national championship game, Tuttle stated, “We’ll see what happens. I think I’ll have the opportunity to. It’s still in process. I’m enjoying this moment right now.”

As Tuttle awaits the decision on his eligibility, Michigan fans are curious to see if he will secure his place as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
