Michigan Announces New Coach In Place Of Jay Harbaugh

The departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL this offseason was a significant loss for the Michigan Wolverines. However, the Harbaugh family’s connection to the professional ranks didn’t end there. News broke earlier this week that Jim’s son, Jay Harbaugh, would also be joining the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Chargers for the upcoming 2024 season.

Jay Harbaugh had served as Michigan’s special teams coach from 2017 to 2023, during which time he also handled coaching responsibilities for various position groups within the Wolverines’ roster.

In response to this coaching shift, Michigan’s head coach, Sherrone Moore, wasted no time in naming Jay Harbaugh’s replacement. The reins of the special teams unit will now be entrusted to J.B. Brown, who has been an integral part of Michigan’s football program since 2021 in the role of a special teams analyst.

Coach Moore expressed his confidence in Brown, stating, “Coach Brown has an outstanding mind for special teams and knows how we want to attack that phase of the game. He has been a key factor in our special teams success and he will help us continue to be a leader in this important aspect of the game. I am glad to keep J.B. his wife Jessica and their family here in Ann Arbor and part of the Michigan Football program.”

J.B. Brown, understandably thrilled about his promotion, is eager to lead Michigan’s special teams unit to peak performance in the upcoming season. He intends to ensure that the special teams become a dynamic force on the field, capable of making impactful plays that set up both the offense and defense for success.

“I am excited for this opportunity and grateful to Coach Moore,” Brown remarked. “Having been in meetings and at practice the last three seasons, I know how we want to run our special teams units, and I will ensure we are an aggressive group capable of making plays that set up our offense and defense for success. I cannot wait to get working more actively with our players and to get to work for an outstanding set of spring practices.”

With a revamped coaching staff post-Harbaugh era, the Wolverines are gearing up for the challenges and opportunities that the 2024 season will bring. Michigan fans eagerly await the outcome of this transition as the team prepares for a new chapter. ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ”ต #MichiganFootball #CoachingChanges #NCAAF #Wolverines #SpecialTeams
