Lance Leipold Clarifies Coaching Future Amid Washington Job Speculation

Amid speculation linking him to the vacant head coaching position at Washington Huskies, Kansas Jayhawks head coach Lance Leipold has put the rumors to rest.

Considered by many as a frontrunner for the Washington job following Kalen DeBoer’s departure, Leipold took to social media on Sunday afternoon to clarify his commitment to Kansas. In a tweet, he indicated, “Rock Chalk Jayhawk. I am staying at KU and am excited about the future of our program!”

Leipold’s decision to remain with the Jayhawks comes as a relief to Kansas football fans, who can now look forward to the continuation of his leadership and vision for the program. The tweet not only dispels the swirling rumors but also reaffirms Leipold’s dedication to the Kansas Jayhawks.

While the speculation added an element of uncertainty to the coaching landscape, Leipold’s public announcement brings clarity and a sense of stability to the Kansas football program. The coach’s commitment sets the tone for the upcoming season, instilling confidence in the team and its supporters as they gear up for future challenges in the world of college football.

“The guys come back to campus tomorrow. Can’t wait to get back to work with them in ‘24!! Rock Chalk!!” he wrote.

Leipold was believed to be one of two major frontrunners for the job.

“Two names I’m hearing consistently for Washington: Kansas’ Lance Leipold and Arizona’s Jedd Fisch. Not saying they’re the only two … but worth noting that both currently coach star QBs from the west coast with multiple seasons of remaining eligibility. Just saying,” Mike Vorel reported.

Perhaps the Huskies will now turn to Fisch at Arizona, now that Leipold appears to be out of the search.
