Kirk Herbstreit Weighs In on Potential Ideal Successor for Michigan Amid Jim Harbaugh Speculation

As the curtain may fall on Jim Harbaugh’s tenure with Michigan, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has a compelling suggestion for his potential successor, and it’s someone already donning the Wolverines’ colors – assistant coach Sherrone Moore.

During an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the insightful “College GameDay” analyst didn’t hold back, labeling Moore as the ideal candidate to step into Harbaugh’s formidable shoes. Herbstreit lauded Moore’s impact during the 2021 season, emphasizing his role in rejuvenating Michigan’s offensive identity.

“Based on what happened this year, Sherrone Moore is a star in the making. I mean, this guy came in 2021, Jim Harbaugh took a chance on him. He not only calling plays these last two years, he got him back to their identity, which is a dominant offensive line that really sets the tone for the entire team, and these last three years, that’s been very evident. … It’s taken a long time for them to get it back over 10 years. But Sherrone Moore deserves creating that culture in that room and then the play calling and taking on the head coach responsibilities when Jim Harbaugh was down at the end of the year,” explained Herbstreit.

Herbstreit drew parallels to the Rich Rod era, highlighting how Michigan’s recruiting strategy shifted, especially concerning offensive linemen. With the Wolverines now on an upward trajectory, Herbie celebrated the return of an old-school approach, contrasting with the prevalent spread offenses and bubble screens.

The question looms large: Should Moore continue to lead the Wolverines in the Maize & Blue as the head coach? It’s a captivating prospect as Michigan enthusiasts ponder the potential continuation of the program’s resurgence under the guidance of someone instrumental in redefining its football identity.
