Jose Canseco’s Model Daughter: Slugger Father Blew Through Our Family Money

26-year-old model Josie Canseco, daughter of former MLB superstar Jose Canseco, recently opened up about her financial struggles and debunked the assumption that she grew up in wealth.

The Victoria’s Secret and Moschino runway model shared that the “family money was blown” when she was just a young child, around 6 or 7 years old.

“Everyone claiming I came from all this rich money because I’m a ‘Canseco’ do ur research,” the 5-foot-9 model wrote on her Instagram.

“My ‘family money’ was blown by the time I was 6/7 w bankruptcy n I had to work my a** off to not only sustain my ‘family name’ but also pay my bills cause no one paid that s**t except me,” she said.

Despite her father’s reported earnings of over $40 million during his illustrious yet controversial 17-year Major League Baseball career, Josie Canseco revealed that the family faced financial hardships, leading to her own personal struggles.

“My family is broke and I don’t get the advance of a family that was rich,” she said. “I’m tired of being categorized when it was very different.”

Jose Canseco, a six-time All-Star and two-time World Series Champion, filed for bankruptcy in 2012, a fact that seems to have greatly impacted the family’s financial stability.

Josie Canseco recounted her own experiences of financial difficulty, highlighting that she was burdened by debt for several years. Living in cramped New York apartments alongside fellow models, she revealed that her weekly income barely crossed the $100 mark.

“I’m beyond grateful because I certainly have been graced with the privilege of being born within a family that earned what they earned but respectfully, the expectation isn’t all what it seems,” she said.

Jose, who made his MLB debut in 1985 with the Athletics, has not yet publicly addressed his daughter’s comments about their family’s financial situation.

This disclosure comes despite the father-daughter pair’s recent public appearance at the 2023 Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic held at Houston’s Minute Maid Park, where they were seen sharing smiles.

Throughout his baseball career, Canseco was a dominant force, earning an MVP award in 1988 during his seven-season tenure with the Oakland Athletics. His legacy, however, became tainted by his involvement in the performance-enhancing drugs scandal that rocked the MLB in the 1990’s.

Back in 2021, Josie confessed that she and her father weren’t on speaking terms after he called out Logan Paul, her boyfriend at the time, on Twitter.

“I have no idea [if he’s joking],” Josie said on the “Between Good and Evil” podcast. She said he was “being so selfishly embarrassing.”

“When it comes back to character and integrity, I don’t f**k with those selfish moves. He’s just embarrassing… I went off. I ripped him a new a**hole. He’s like, ‘I’m a grown man, you won’t tell me what I can and cannot say.’”

Josie and Paul broke up shortly after.
