In his early 2024 preseason rankings, Klatt placed Michigan at No. 7 and made a bold prediction, foreseeing Harbaugh making a move to the National Football League (NFL) this time. Despite lacking insider information, Klatt trusts his instincts, stating, “If that’s the case, I would expect Michigan to hire Sherrone Moore, who was basically the head coach for the bulk of that stretch run.”

Sherrone Moore, Michigan’s offensive coordinator, is seen as a logical choice to step into Harbaugh’s shoes. During Harbaugh’s three-game suspension at the close of the regular season, Moore assumed a leadership role and guided the team to victories against Penn State and Ohio State. This wasn’t the first time Moore took the helm, as he also served as Michigan’s acting coach for a 31-6 triumph over Bowling Green during Harbaugh’s earlier suspension for alleged recruiting violations.
Klatt anticipates that Moore would maintain a similar coaching identity in Ann Arbor. However, he acknowledges that the roster will undergo significant changes, describing it as having a “very different” look with standout players like J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum, and Roman Wilson declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Harbaugh, fresh off leading the Wolverines to a national championship, has already interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons for potential NFL opportunities. While Klatt believes Harbaugh’s departure is imminent, he expresses a genuine desire for the coach to stay at Michigan, saying, “I would love if Jim Harbaugh stayed at Michigan. I hope that he does. But in the event that he doesn’t, Michigan is going to have to replace their QB, their head coach, and several key pieces.”
