Jim Harbaugh Names The 4 Greatest Coaches In Football History

During a recent guest appearance on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh unveiled his personal Mount Rushmore of football coaches.

Harbaugh’s esteemed list features four influential figures: his father, Jack Harbaugh; his brother, John Harbaugh; Dave Adolph; and legendary coach Bo Schembechler.

“When I put up a Mount Rushmore of coaches, I mean if I’m going to the very tip-top it’s Jack Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, Dave Adolph, Bo Schembechler,” Harbaugh said. “Those four are right at the very top.”

Jack Harbaugh, Jim’s father, returned from retirement to help his son lead the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship.

With a notable career that included guiding Western Kentucky to a Division I-AA (now FCS) title in 2002, Jack Harbaugh finished his career with a solid record of 116-95-3.

John Harbaugh, who has been at the helm of the Baltimore Ravens since 2008, won the Super Bowl in 2012 and holds the record for the most road playoff victories with eight.

He was also honored as the AP Coach of the Year in 2019.

Dave Adolph, who passed away in 2017, was a distinguished assistant coach with a career spanning both college football and the NFL.

His contributions include working with Jim at the University of San Diego and serving as a data analyst at Michigan.

Then of course there’s the legendary Bo Schembechler, who mentored Jim during his playing days as a quarterback at Michigan.

Schembechler holds a 234–65–8 career coaching record and won 13 Big Ten championships and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year on six occasions.
