Jets Make Surprising Aaron Rodgers Decision That Has Left Many Fans Disappointed

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not expected to participate in the preseason games this year as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles, head coach Robert Saleh revealed to reporters on Tuesday.

Rodgers, who suffered the injury just four plays into the Jets’ 2023 season opener, had hoped to return to action sooner, but ultimately chose to remain sidelined after the team was eliminated from playoff contention.

His absence marked a significant setback for the Jets, who had high hopes after acquiring Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in a high-profile trade last year.

With Rodgers out, the Jets turned to 2021 No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, but his performance – as usual – fell short of expectations.

Wilson was benched in favor of Tim Boyle, who also struggled before being released after just two starts.

Trevor Siemian, brought in later in the season, faced his own difficulties, leading to a disappointing 7-10 record and the team’s 13th consecutive year without a playoff appearance – the longest drought across all four major North American sports leagues.

In response to last season’s challenges, the Jets have made significant changes this offseason.

They bolstered their offensive line by signing veteran tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, and drafting Olu Fashanu with the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The team also added wide receiver Mike Williams and third-round draft pick Malachi Corley to enhance their receiving corps.

To ensure better backup options, the Jets signed veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor and traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos before the draft.

As the Jets aim for a Super Bowl run with Rodgers leading the charge, they are proceeding with caution to ensure his full recovery.

This season is crucial for head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, who are under pressure to deliver results.

The Jets are hopeful that with Rodgers back at full strength, they can turn their fortunes around and end their lengthy playoff drought.

The good news for Jets fans is that if there’s one quarterback who doesn’t need too many preseason snaps to be ready for the regular season, it’s Rodgers.

Having said that, is this decision a mistake???
