The relationship between Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni has been under the microscope since the team’s late-season slump last year.
Their disappointing 2-2 start this season hasn’t helped divert attention from how well the duo is working together.
Following the Eagles’ Week Four loss to the Buccaneers, Hurts acknowledged the ups and downs of his partnership with Sirianni.
When asked if the bye week would be a time for the two to strengthen their connection, Hurts said, “We have our moments.”
However, after the team returned from their break, Hurts offered a more optimistic perspective.
Hurts said that he and Sirianni had shared some “great moments” over the bye week, calling it “one of the most efficient bye weeks” he’s experienced during his time in the NFL.
“We’re the two leaders of the team,” Hurts said. “I’m happy and fortunate that we were able to come together in harmony and have the same goal in mind, trying to get this thing right.
“I got a ton of confidence in him, a ton of confidence in what he brings and everything he’s been able to accomplish. Just continue to press on, on that.
“Everybody goes through different moments, everybody experiences adversity, but we’ve experienced different levels of adversity together. We’re excited for what’s to come.”
Prior to the bye, Sirianni expressed the importance of everyone staying on the same page and coming back stronger than ever as they attempt to get things back on track.
“We’re in this thing together, and it takes everybody,” Sirianni said. “It’s never going to be 100 percent here and 100% there, because that’s just not the way this game is played. That’s why it is the greatest team game, and I’ll stand on that it’s the greatest team game whether it’s a win or a loss.
“But that’s how you continue to come together through the tough times, through the good times, to become a team. I know one thing that we can say our identity is as a football team that we talk a ton about is our team, our accountability, our detail, and our toughness that we’re constantly trying to work on and become better at that at all times.
“You win on a collection of plays, not just one play. And I think that’s something that – we’ve got to put our head down and just grind to make sure we’re fixing all the mistakes, because you never know when that play is going to be. You never know when that turnover is going to be.”
With 13 straight weeks of games ahead, the Eagles will have little room for rest or reset.
Eagles fans are hoping that Sirianni and the team used the bye week wisely. This Sunday will be a good indication of if they did or didn’t when they host the struggling Cleveland Browns at The Linc.
Imagine if the Birds lose to Deshaun Watson??? Philly fans are already furious over the Phillies nightmare collapse in the MLB playoffs. The Eagles losing at home to the Watson-Browns would cause things to get quite ugly in The City of Brotherly Love.
But hey, positive thoughts only … On that note, what do you make of the Hurts-Sirianni relationship? Are they really on the same page???
