Isaiah Bond Makes Strategic Move, Commits to Texas as a ‘Business Decision’

In the aftermath of Coach Nick Saban’s retirement, Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Bond has made a strategic move, committing to Texas. Describing it as a “business decision,” Bond highlighted the parallel between the football world and the business realm in an ESPN phone interview on Sunday. Emphasizing his focus on draft stock improvement, Bond expressed confidence in his decision to switch allegiances.

The sophomore standout, who recently completed his second year, solidified his commitment to Texas during a weekend visit. Bond’s move marked the first transfer from Alabama following Saban’s retirement, indicating a ripple effect within the team. In tandem with Bond’s decision, wide receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr., ranked 13th overall in the 2025 ESPN 300, also decommitted from Alabama on Sunday.

Steve Sarkisian, the former Alabama offensive coordinator, now at the helm of Texas, played a pivotal role in securing Bond. Bond affirmed Sarkisian’s reputation as one of the premier offensive minds in college football and cited the allure of Texas’ well-rounded offensive lineup.

Bond’s departure from Alabama directly correlated with Saban’s retirement, prompting a reversal of his initial commitment to stay for another year. Kalen DeBoer, Alabama’s new coach, reached out to Bond, but the allure of Sarkisian’s recruiting efforts quickly rekindled the connection between player and coach.

Expressing enthusiasm for his move to Texas, Bond cited the team’s strengths, including a standout quarterback in Quinn Ewers and a formidable offensive line. Bond, who led Alabama in catches this season, is set to become a primary target for Ewers in the upcoming 2024 season.

Reflecting on the transition, Bond acknowledged the appeal of catching passes from Ewers, a top prospect in the upcoming draft. Anticipating a successful partnership, Bond praised Ewers as a “great big-time pocket-passer quarterback.”

Texas emerges as an ideal stage for Bond’s talents, offering a wide-open offensive system that heavily relies on the passing game. Ewers’ decision to return for his senior season adds further weight to Texas’ offensive prowess, supported by an experienced offensive line led by rising junior Kelvin Banks.

With Texas losing key receivers to the NFL, Bond’s arrival adds depth to the team’s receiving corps, alongside other notable transfers. Matthew Golden, formerly of Houston, and the potential addition of Silas Bolden from Oregon State, further bolster Texas’ offensive arsenal.

Bond’s decision to join Texas ultimately boils down to a “business decision,” with no animosity toward his previous team. Looking forward to working with wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, who brings five years of NFL coaching experience, Bond expressed his commitment to doing what’s best for himself and his family.
