After a long, cold winter, MLB Opening Day is finally upon us!!!
Following their worst season in 30-years, it’s no exaggeration to call 2024 the most important season in recent memory for the New York Yankees.

While the Bombers enter the season as legitimate World Series contenders, the fan base is frustrated over “what could have been?” – or better yet “what should have been.”
General manager Brian Cashman shocking passed on acquiring Cy Young winner Blake Snell as well Jordan Montgomery … This despite the team’s clear need for pitching depth, especially after ace Gerrit Cole’s concerning elbow injury.
Even worse than passing on Snell and Montgomery, former Cy Young ace Trevor Bauer is available and can be had for the veteran minimum, or close to it … Yet Cashman is once again asleep at the wheel.
Innocent of all accusations and wants the league minimum. I'm no GM but what ya'll waiting for?

It’s no secret that owner Hal Steinbrenner is guarding his checkbook closer than his father ever did.
Hal’s stingy penny-pinching has long annoyed Yankee fans who haven’t seen the Bombers win the World Series since 2009.
But don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to make the Yankees out to be the Oakland A’s or anything. The entire organization is committed to winning and is usually always alive come October.
Still, the frustration within the fan base is very real…

Perhaps the only thing stronger than the frustration the fan base feels is the blatant disrespect thrown at the Bombers by Baseball Reference.
Shockingly, Baseball Reference projects the Yankees to finish with a 72-90 record this season!!!
Baseball Reference is projecting the Yankees to finish last in the AL East at roughly 72-90
With 90% confidence, they're predicting their best case record at 82-80, and their worst case record at 61-101 pic.twitter.com/BFHVqH7doj

The Yankees are the most polarizing team in all of baseball. Maybe even all of sports, behind only the Dallas Cowboys.
The love that many have for the Yanks is only topped by the hate they receive from everyone else.
Still, for anyone to predict that the Bombers will finish 72-90 this season is utterly ridiculous.
Considering their talent, the Yankees could fall out of bed and still win over 80 games.
My goodness. Breathtakingly beautiful. The jersey isn't too shabby either. 🤪💙🗽 pic.twitter.com/cDZmHXDh41

In a bizzarro world where Baseball Reference’s prediction comes true, the 72-90 record would mark the Yankees worst finish EVER in a 162-game season.
Notably, only the St. Louis Cardinals (70.1 wins), Oakland A’s (66.5), Colorado Rockies (66.1) and Chicago White Sox (64.1) are projected to have less wins than the Yankees.
oh it’s hype video season yeah we’re absolutely back
— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) March 28, 2024
In case you were wondering, Baseball Reference projects the top-five teams being the Atlanta Braves (94.1 wins), Baltimore Orioles (93.9), Los Angeles Dodgers (93.7), Philadelphia Phillies (93.5) and Seattle Mariners (92.3).
Kills me how Cashman does not know how to assemble a pitching staff.

What are your thoughts on Baseball Reference’s predictions?
As far as the Yankees, how do you think they will do this season?
What is your (very) early World Series prediction???
