In a game that had fans reminiscing about the glory days of Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer, Florida’s head football coach, Billy Napier, led his team to a resounding 29-16 victory over the #11-ranked Tennessee Volunteers.
The win marked a significant turning point for Napier and his Gators.
Napier, who had faced scrutiny after a challenging first season at Florida, expressed the importance of believing in the process: “Now we need that spark, that’s all, something that allows our players to taste a little bit of the fruits of their labor,” Napier told ESPN.

Sophomore running back Trevor Etienne had a career night, rushing for an impressive 172 yards, including a game-changing 62-yard touchdown run.
This performance was a stark contrast to their earlier game against Utah, where no Florida running back managed a run longer than 9 yards.
Napier explained his strategy of controlling the game in the second half to limit Tennessee’s offensive possessions, which ultimately resulted in the Vols third-lowest point output since head coach Josh Heupel’s arrival in 2021.
The win carried historical significance as well, with Tennessee’s last victory at Florida’s home turf dating back two decades to 2003.
Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III, a Florida native, had fueled the rivalry with bold statements during the offseason, only to face the Gators retaliation on the field.

Napier wasted no time, immediately engaging with recruits on the field an hour after the game.
“Obviously, we still have a lot of work to do, but you want to see your people have success, right?” Napier said.
