Former Top High School Recruit and NFL Player Ronald Powell Sadly Passes Away at 32

Tragedy struck the football community as former NFL linebacker Ronald Powell, once the No. 1-ranked high school recruit in the 2010 class, passed away at the age of 32.

The somber news was shared by Powell’s former college teammate, Junior Galette, who expressed his grief on social media, stating, “I Love You Forever till we meet again. An EXCELLENT FATHER. Respected Brother and a Loving Son.” Galette’s heartfelt tribute continued, “I am saddened to share with the rest of the world that Ronald Powell Transitioned Earlier today. REST IN POWER RONALD POWELL.”

Details surrounding Powell’s cause of death were not disclosed.

Powell’s football journey began at Rancho Verde High School in California, where he showcased his versatility playing defensive end, linebacker, and tight end. His standout senior year, marked by 13 sacks and 28 tackles for losses, propelled him to become a five-star college recruit and the top player in his class.

Despite facing setbacks due to injuries, including two torn ACLs, Powell committed to the Florida Gators. In his three seasons with the Gators, he managed to tally 11 sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble.

The New Orleans Saints selected Powell in the 2014 NFL draft, but his professional career was hampered by challenges, and he played in only 14 games.

Beyond the NFL, Powell also contributed to the Alliance of American Football in 2018, representing the Orlando Apollos.

As the football community mourns the untimely loss of a promising talent, the legacy of Ronald Powell, with his impactful journey from high school stardom to the professional gridiron, will be remembered. Rest in peace, Ronald Powell.
