FAMILY LEGACY: Sons Of Two Of The Greatest Players In NFL History Sign With Their Father’s Teams … Will Either Live Up To Their Family Name??

The 2024 NFL Draft was quite eventful. Then again, that’s always the case.

We had our fair share of twists and turns and surprises. Whether it was the Atlanta Falcons shocking decision to select Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick or Cooper DeJean stunningly dropping to the second round, the drama was absolutely riveting.

Interestingly, this year’s draft saw the sons of several NFL greats be drafted.

Some of the second-generation notables include Marvin Harrison Jr., Joe Alt, Luke McCaffrey, Brenden Rice and Jonah Elliss.

Two of the bigger legacy names ended up going undrafted but have since signed on with teams as undrafted free agents.

The first being Terique Owens, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, who signed with (one of) his father’s old teams, the San Francisco 49ers.

The younger Owens, a standout wide receiver for the Missouri State Bears, is poised to follow in his father’s footsteps nearly three decades after Terrell Owens first donned the famous “SF” helmet.

Last season, Terique hauled in 28 receptions for 528 yards and four touchdowns for Missouri State.

If he’s able to make the team, Terique would join the stacked 49ers offense, featuring the likes of Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall.

(Although, it’s fair to wonder if Aiyuk or Samuel end up getting traded prior to training camp.)

Another famous son who has signed on with an NFL team as an undrafted free agent is none other than Frank Gore Jr.

Gore Jr. was a star running back at Southern Miss. Anyone who’s seen him play certainly finds it surprising that he managed to go undrafted.

However, the Buffalo Bills smartly snatched him up shortly after the conclusion of the draft.

Gore Jr. figures to have a decent shot to make the team – or at least the practice squad.

He will join a Bills backfield which includes the likes of James Cook, Ray Davis, Darrynton Evans, and Ty Johnson.

Frank Gore Sr.’s legacy looms large in NFL history. He was one of the most productive backs in recent memory and ended up ranking third all-time in career rushing yards.

His legendary career saw him make stops in San Francisco, Indianapolis, Miami, New York (Jets) and Buffalo (just like his son).

Time will tell if Terique Owens and Frank Gore Jr. are able to make it in the NFL … But the fact that they’re following in their father’s footsteps – just like all the others – is pretty damn cool.

What are your thoughts on Owens and Gore Jr.?

Do either have a shot to be real difference makers in the NFL? … Or will they wash out quickly???
