After returning from their bye week, the Miami Dolphins faced questions about the potential return of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Head coach Mike McDaniel addressed the media on Monday, with the quarterback’s recovery from a concussion being a key topic.
Tagovailoa has missed the last three games following a concussion suffered in Week 2. Though he is eligible to be designated for return from injured reserve after this week’s game against the Colts, McDaniel remained cautious about setting a specific timeline for Tagovailoa’s return to practice.
“All the word Tua has gotten has continued to be positive,” McDaniel shared. “I do expect to see him playing football in 2024, but as far as practicing next week, we’ll have to see. There’s still information that he’s seeking this week.”
While McDaniel confirmed that Tagovailoa will not play in this week’s game, he made it clear that the team remains optimistic about the quarterback’s eventual return to the field.
However, he emphasized the importance of letting the recovery process unfold naturally.
“There’s still information that he’s seeking this week,” McDaniel said. “As far as timelines go, I know he’s not playing this week and I do expect to see him playing football in 2024, but where that is exactly we’ll let the process continue since we still have time before we could even entertain anything.”
This is the first time McDaniel has publicly stated his belief that Tagovailoa will play again this season, describing it as “exciting” to imagine the quarterback back in action, even though the exact timing remains uncertain.
For now, the Dolphins will continue to take a measured approach, awaiting further clarity on when Tagovailoa might rejoin the team on the field.
However, one thing has become very clear: We will most likely see Tua under center again in 2024.
