Danny Dimes Takes Shot At ESPN When Asked About Saquon Barkley Situation

In the aftermath of Saquon Barkley’s one-year contract agreement with the New York Giants, quarterback Daniel Jones shared his thoughts on the matter with the media at Giants training camp.

With Barkley unable to secure a long-term deal before the July 17 deadline, questions have arisen about the devaluation of the running back position in the league.

When asked about this perceived devaluation, Jones responded”: “I don’t know, I think that’s probably a question for the experts on ESPN.”

Jones nailed two birds with one stone with that answer.. It was not only a great way to get out of the question, but he was also able to take a clear, sarcastic shot at the “experts” in the media.

Following the well-documented cold war between Barkley and the Giants, the star running back ended up signing a one-year contract that presents an opportunity for him to earn up to $11 million.

The agreement came just in time for Barkley’s camp reporting, ensuring his presence as preparations for the 2023 season begin.

Throughout the offseason, the Giants have made a concerted effort to secure their key players. They successfully re-signed Daniel Jones before the franchise tag deadline, a move that allowed them to use the tag on Barkley. As a result, Barkley’s current contract situation unfolded accordingly.

The Giants commitment to their core players was evident in the extensions handed out this year. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who emerged as a dominant force in the 2022 season, received a well-deserved extension.

Additionally, left tackle Andrew Thomas, a crucial part of the team’s offensive line, inked a new deal just before the start of training camp.

With Barkley’s long-term future uncertain, negotiations for a new contract must wait until after the 2023 season. Nevertheless, the Giants are unified in their pursuit of the playoffs (and beyond) this year, with all players locked in for the upcoming season.

How do you think the Giants will do this season?

Will this be Barkley’s final year with Big Blue?
