Colorado Football: Deion Sanders Sets Sights On College Football Playoff

Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, remains optimistic about the Colorado football program’s prospects for the College Football Playoff (CFP) in 2024. When pressed by Skip Bayless on whether he still stood by his assertion that the Buffaloes could secure a spot in the expanded 12-team playoff next season, Sanders affirmed his belief.

In Sanders’ words, “Yeah, most definitely. Shoot, I believe, man. I don’t just wear this on my shirt and on my chest. I truly believe that what we have in-house β€” last year, Key[shawn Johnson] watched all these games; we were seven points away from a multitude of wins, probably seven or eight more wins. We just didn’t know how to win.”

Reflecting on the challenges faced last season, Sanders acknowledged that while they faced adversity, there were opportunities for victory in close games. He emphasized the need to transform those near-misses into tangible successes, expressing his determination to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

Coach Prime’s Colorado Journey:

Deion Sanders, renowned for his rapid transformation of Jackson State into an HBCU powerhouse, took the helm of the Colorado football program following a challenging 1-11 season. In his inaugural season in Boulder, Sanders guided the Buffaloes to a 4-8 record, including a noteworthy 3-0 start that saw them defeat CFP finalists TCU on the road.

Despite a promising start, the Buffaloes faced difficulties as the season progressed, with a series of close games ultimately resulting in eight losses in their final nine matches. Colorado concluded the season at the bottom of the PAC-12, securing only one conference win against Arizona State.

A New Frontier in the Big 12:

Colorado’s transition to the Big 12 presents fresh opportunities and challenges. The Buffaloes will compete against familiar PAC-12 rivals and new adversaries like BYU, Houston, and Cincinnati. With the departure of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, the Big 12 promises to be a captivating and competitive conference.

Coach Prime’s optimism for Colorado’s playoff potential in 2024 underscores his commitment to shaping the team’s future and achieving success on the collegiate football stage.
