Colin Cowherd Reacts to Florida State’s Playoff

Earlier this month, the Florida State Seminoles fought hard and secured a 13-10 victory over Louisville in the ACC Championship, capping off a perfect 13-0 season. However, in the wake of recent developments, Colin Cowherd is expressing relief that Florida State didn’t make the College Football Playoff.

During Thursday’s episode of The Herd, Cowherd pointed out a significant factor. He highlighted how Louisville’s defense allowed six touchdown passes in last night’s Holiday Bowl clash against USC. Cowherd opined that if a team like Florida State struggled against an opponent that surrendered six touchdowns, it would have likely faced a severe drubbing in the College Football Playoff.

Cowherd emphatically stated, “Thank God Florida State’s not in the playoff. That looked like a scrimmage for USC offensively.”

However, some college football fans didn’t share Cowherd’s perspective, suggesting that using bowl games as a benchmark for evaluating teams may not be entirely accurate:

One user retorted, “The QB they had playing against Louisville was a true freshman and wouldn’t have seen the field in the CFB. Nice try though.”

Another commenter sarcastically remarked, “Using bowl games in 2023 as a measuring stick on how good a team is.”

A third individual added, “It’s a bowl game, which, outside of the CFP, doesn’t mean much. Great win for USC, but doesn’t impact anything. And as for FSU, Louisville was at full strength and in the game. Louisville beat Notre Dame, who smoked USC. This is stupid.”

It’s evident that Cowherd’s perspective on Florida State’s playoff exclusion hasn’t resonated with many college football enthusiasts, who contend that evaluating teams solely based on bowl game outcomes may not provide a comprehensive assessment.
