Clear Favorite To Be The First Benched NFL Quarterback This Season

As we move into the first month of 2023, a significant number of quarterbacks are facing challenges, and it appears inevitable that changes will occur at the crucial quarterback position in the NFL.

SportsBetting.ag has recently released updated betting odds on which starting quarterbacks are most likely to be benched first this season. Desmond Ridder, the second-year quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, is the clear frontrunner with odds at +100, followed by Mac Jones of the New England Patriots at +500.

Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders holds the third-best odds at +900, while Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans), Justin Fields (Chicago Bears), Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos), and Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh Steelers) share the next-best odds at +1000.

The Atlanta Falcons have suffered two consecutive losses, with Ridder’s performance being a significant factor in their recent struggles. In three out of four games, Ridder has thrown for 201 yards or less and has recorded just three touchdowns against an equal number of interceptions.

Notably, the Falcons have a strong backup quarterback in Taylor Heinicke, who impressed with a 5-3-1 record with Washington last year, totaling 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. His presence as a capable backup might lead to a change if Ridder continues to struggle, especially in an offense featuring stars like Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London.

In New England, Mac Jones is another quarterback to keep an eye on for a potential benching, as backup Bailey Zappe showed promise in limited action last year, suggesting that he might be a viable option for the Patriots.
