Casey Thompson Joins Oklahoma As His 4th College Team In 7 Years At QB

Former Texas, Nebraska, and FAU quarterback Casey Thompson has committed to playing his seventh season in college football at Oklahoma. The graduate student at FAU, who tore his ACL after playing in three games this past season, was granted a medical hardship waiver for an additional year. The son of former Sooners quarterback Charles Thompson, Casey will return to Oklahoma, where he was a high school star, setting state records with 12,840 yards of offense and 154 touchdowns.

Thompson, turning 26 on October 3, has had a winding path, initially choosing Texas due to the priority given by coach Tom Herman. After Herman’s departure, Thompson played under Steve Sarkisian in 2021 and later transferred to Nebraska before reuniting with Herman at FAU.

During his career, Thompson played 33 games, completing 63.5% of his passes for 5,338 yards and 52 touchdowns with 24 interceptions. At Oklahoma, he is expected to back up Jackson Arnold, who made his first start in the Alamo Bowl, finishing with 26-of-45 for 361 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in a 38-24 loss to Arizona. Thompson will be the third player in modern history to have played on both sides of the Red River Rivalry, joining Paul Moriarty and Brenen Thompson.

Casey Thompson’s commitment to Oklahoma marks a significant addition to the team, bringing experience and depth to the quarterback position.
