Cardinals Ideal Destination For All-Star Pitcher After Impressive Season

St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations, John Mozeliak, has been diligently working to strengthen the team’s pitching staff during the offseason. The Cardinals made significant moves early on to enhance their rotation, including three external additions. They continued their efforts by trading outfielder Tyler O’Neill in exchange for pitching depth.

With their pitching rotation now fortified, Mozeliak is shifting his focus from quantity to quality, looking to acquire impact arms for the team. One potential candidate worth considering is left-handed pitcher Matt Moore, who has excelled since transitioning to a full-time bullpen role two seasons ago.

Last season, the 34-year-old Moore showcased impressive stats, boasting a 2.56 ERA, a striking 60-to-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .232 batting average against, and a 1.16 WHIP across 52 2/3 innings while playing for three different teams.

Since his transition to a high-leverage reliever in 2022, Moore has maintained a remarkable 2.20 ERA in 113 appearances. His addition to the Cardinals’ bullpen could provide the team with a valuable left-handed option.

While Jojo Romero demonstrated his capabilities from the left side last season, Moore’s arrival would further balance a predominantly right-handed pitching staff. Mozeliak has expressed interest in bolstering the team’s relief corps, and Moore seems to be an ideal fit for St. Louis.
