Fresh off losing offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to Alabama, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish may turn to former Bucs OC Byron Leftwich to fill his shoes.
According to 247Sports, it was Leftwich who contacted Irish head coach Marcus Freeman and initiated conversation about possibly coming onboard in South Bend.
Byron Leftwich reached out to Notre Dame about the OC position last week, per source. He and Marcus Freeman have stayed in contact as Leftwich remains a serious candidate for the job. @247Sports

The thought of Leftwich calling plays for the Irish certainly intrigued some fans…
If Byron Leftwich to Notre Dame actually happens I’ll cry tears of joy

Count me in on Byron Leftwich. My only concern when his name was brought up a few days ago was recruiting…but he’s young, has a dynamic personality, a name all recruits will know and has coached the perceived GOAT the last 3 years.
Hard to not be intrigued

Be a great hire. NFL Veteran QB, Super Bowl winning coach and player, mentored by offensive mind Bruce Arians in AZ and TB. If he's willing to recruit… A lot of this game is optics and going from Tommy Rees to Byron Leftwich would be tremendous

The NFL and college football are vastly different, so it’s hard to predict how strong of a college football OC Leftwich would be.
Once thought to be a rising star in the coaching world, Leftwich’s stock took a massive hit this season.
Maybe a change of scenery and personnel is just what Leftwich needs to get back on his feet – but the dysfunction and ineptitude of this year’s Bucs offense is still fresh is everyone’s minds…
But the Bucs O looked terrible this year…
