BREAKING: NFL Makes History With First-Ever Monday Night Football Flex, Major Matchup Shifted To ESPN Broadcast

The Philadelphia Eagles had a busy schedule with five prime-time games this season, and now they’re adding a sixth to the mix.

In a historic move, the NFL announced on Thursday that the Eagles’ Week 15 showdown with the Seattle Seahawks on December 17th will be shifted to ESPN’s Monday Night Football, advancing the game by a day. This decision impacts the Kansas City Chiefs (8-3) and the struggling New England Patriots (2-9), as their matchup, originally scheduled for Sunday, will now take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday. It’s safe to say that the Chiefs vs. Patriots game might be seen as a one-sided affair.

This move is significant because it marks the first time the NFL has flexed a game into Monday Night Football. While Sunday Night Football games have been subject to flex scheduling since 2006, this season introduces the flexibility of Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football games, which are now available on Amazon Prime Video.

Although the NFL rarely moves Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs out of prime time, the Patriots’ lackluster performance this season has made them less appealing for prime-time slots. This schedule change was driven by the greater implications of the Eagles-Seahawks matchup for the NFC playoffs.

It’s worth noting that the Seahawks already have a primetime game scheduled when they face the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Thursday Night Football.
