Former NFL cornerback Buster Skrine, who’s career earnings exceeded $40 million, is currently being sought by Canadian authorities after skipping a court appearance.
The 35-year-old, known for his tenure with multiple NFL teams, allegedly removed the GPS ankle bracelet he was required to wear following charges of bank fraud.
According to reports, the 5-foot-9 Skrine was last seen in Durham (Canada).
Police shared an image of Skrine along with a press release urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact local authorities.
Skrine’s legal troubles began when he was arrested at Toronto Pearson International Airport last August on multiple fraud charges.
Following his arrest, he was transferred to the Saskatchewan Correctional Centre, where additional charges awaited him.
Despite being scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Skrine failed to attend, and his GPS bracelet ceased transmitting signals.
Throughout his 11-year NFL career, Skrine played for five teams: the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans.
According to Spotrac, Skrine accumulated a substantial fortune of $40.372 million during his time in the league.
Despite his achievements on the field (and in the bank), Skrine’s career was marred by a lack of postseason opportunities, as he played in only one playoff game during his tenure in the league (with the Titans back in 2021).
Nevertheless, Skrine established himself as one of the league’s premier slot corners, notably during his time with the Browns and Jets.
During his four-year stint in Cleveland, Skrine notched six interceptions and 47 pass breakups, despite the team’s overall struggles.
His tenure with the Jets saw him contribute three interceptions, 30 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
After brief spells with the Bears, 49ers, and Titans, Skrine’s NFL career ended in 2021 with one interception and three pass defenses split between the latter two teams.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Skrine’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
