Beloved Georgia Bulldogs Mascot Uga X Passes Away

Uga X, the beloved English bulldog who proudly represented the Georgia Bulldogs on the football sidelines during their most successful years, has passed away at the age of 10, as announced by the university on Tuesday.

Known affectionately as Que, Uga X officially assumed his role at the age of 2 during a memorable collaring ceremony on November 21, 2015. Over his impressive eight-season tenure as the mascot, Georgia’s football team achieved remarkable success, boasting a record of 91 wins and 18 losses. During this period, the Bulldogs secured two national championships, two SEC titles, and participated in seven prestigious New Year’s Six bowl games.

In a heartfelt tribute, Bulldogs athletics expressed, “He will always be remembered as a Damn Good Dawg.”

Uga X decided to retire after the conclusion of the 2022 season, making way for his successor, Boom (Uga XI). This transition is part of a storied lineage of English bulldog mascots dating back to 1955.

For nearly seven decades, the Seiler family, led by Charles Seiler and based in Savannah, Georgia, has lovingly cared for this lineage of mascots. The family announced that Uga X, who reached the age of 10, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah.

Uga X garnered national attention for an unforgettable pregame encounter with Bevo XV, the formidable longhorn steer serving as the mascot for the Texas Longhorns, during the Sugar Bowl in 2019.

As handlers for Bevo XV and Uga X worked to position the two mascots for a pregame photo opportunity, Bevo suddenly charged towards Uga, causing the metal barriers around the bulldog to collapse and resulting in a brief moment of chaos. Fortunately, Uga managed to quickly evade any harm, thanks to his agility.

Bevo’s handlers promptly regained control of the 1,600-pound steer, ensuring the safety of Uga and nearby spectators. With the situation under control, the long-anticipated photo opportunity proceeded as planned, with Bevo maintaining his original position, facing the stands.
