Besides contract negotiations with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, it seems that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will have one more item on his “to-do” list.
A federal court is set to hear Jones’ counterclaim in response to a defamation lawsuit filed by a woman asserting that she is his biological daughter.
According to reports, jury selection for the trial is scheduled to commence on July 19.
Jones has accused Alexandra Davis and her mother, Cynthia Davis, of breaching a contract related to their paternity claims.
In March 2022, Alexandra Davis filed a lawsuit against Jones seeking to nullify a confidentiality agreement that her mother had signed two years after Alexandra’s birth.
The agreement allegedly stipulated that Jones would provide financial support to the Davis family on the condition that they maintain secrecy regarding his paternity.
Alexandra Davis later withdrew her lawsuit in an effort to establish Jones’ paternity.
This past March, a federal judge dismissed her defamation lawsuit against Jones, leaving his counterclaim as the sole remaining litigation in the case.
“It’s a case where the judge has given it very, very thorough and careful attention and we’re looking forward to trying the case not as much for the money, although there’s significant money involved, but rather to uphold the fact that when you make a deal and one side lives up to the deal as Mr. Jones did, the other side should too,” Jones’s attorney Chip Babcock said.
“Our view is that they didn’t live up to it, and we did.”
In a separate legal matter, Jones is also facing a lawsuit accusing him of sexually assaulting a woman in 2018. The trial, initially expected to begin in March, has been postponed until next year.
