Astros Considering Trade For All-Star Catcher: Should They Pull The Trigger??

The Houston Astros are considering a bold move as the MLB trade deadline approaches.

A perennial contender, Houston is trying to bolster their roster as we head into the stretch run of the season.

Rumors are circulating that they have their sights set on acquiring Salvador Perez, one of the best catchers of this generation.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Kansas City Royals may be open to trading Perez, listing the Astros as a top contender for the deal.

In a recent interview, Perez refused to comment on whether he would waive his veto rights to join a contender. However, insider sources suggest that he might consider it for a chance at another championship ring.

Heyman mentioned that the Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Houston Astros are potential landing spots for Perez. When asked about a potential trade, Perez expressed his love for Kansas City, saying, “I love Kansas City. They gave me an opportunity.”

Known for his exceptional offensive skills and a remarkable five Gold Glove awards, Perez has become a highly sought-after player, especially with numerous teams currently in contention.

If the trade were to materialize, Perez would join the Astros and share catching duties with Martin Maldonado, while also contributing as a designated hitter on certain days.

Perez’s addition would undoubtedly bolster Houston’s lineup and provide outstanding defensive coverage behind the plate.

Although Maldonado is a beloved figure among Astros fans and one of the league’s premier defensive catchers, his lackluster .556 OPS this season has been a setback in the lineup.

Acquiring Salvador Perez would represent a significant offensive upgrade, greatly improving Houston’s chances of returning to the World Series.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the Astros and their potential pursuit of the elite catcher.

Should Houston trade for Perez?

Realistically, how much does he have left in the tank going forward?
