In the aftermath of the Dallas Cowboys shocking loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round, former wide receiver Dez Bryant voiced his desire for a coaching change.
In fairness, most people were calling for McCarthy to be fired … And for a while, it looked like it was going to happen.
I think McCarthy is gone

However, owner Jerry Jones provided a shock of his own when he announced that McCarthy would remain as head coach.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys face an important draft and will be picking 24th in the first round … The Athletic’s Jon Machota tweeted that Bryant was interestingly Dallas’ 24th overall pick back in 2010.
Seeing Machota’s tweet, Bryant couldn’t help but take a shot at his former coach, Jason Garret.Β
“Yea a Monster got drafted and was coached by a clapper … Let’s make sure that don’t happen again,” Bryant tweeted.Β

This isn’t the first time Bryant has criticized Garrett.
In 2021, after the New York Giants fired Garrett as their offensive coordinator, Bryant revealed, “(I) never respected his philosophy towards players and the game.”

Bryant, who started his career under Wade Phillips, saw Garrett take over as head coach during his rookie year.
Garrett remained at the helm for the entirety of Bryant’s nine-year tenure in Dallas, where the team compiled an 85-67 record with three playoff appearances, each ending in the NFC Divisional Round.
The infamous “non-catch” against the Packers in one of those playoff games continues to haunt both Bryant and Cowboys fans everywhere.
After the recent wild card loss to Green Bay, Bryant made it known that he expected changes to be made – and he thought McCarthy was going to be one of them…

He also seemed to endorse Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as the next man up in Dallas.Β
“He ready to be the next cowboy head coach,” Bryant tweeted on X.Β

Of course, we all know how everything turned out…
What are your thoughts on the Cowboys decision to keep McCarthy as head coach?
Would they have been better off replacing him with Bill Belichick?
As far as Jason Garrett goes, was that “clapper” shot really necessary by Dez???
Maybe McCarthy needs to try clapping. Worked for Jason Garrett right? pic.twitter.com/lyG3IGSIWI
