All-Pro QB Disgusted With Himself For Being “Fat”

Baltimore Ravens’ All-Pro quarterback, Lamar Jackson, has undergone a significant transformation, shedding approximately 25 pounds since the 2022 season.

Once weighing in at 220 pounds during training camp, Jackson now plays at a leaner 195 pounds, a stark contrast to his earlier career weight of around 208 pounds.

In a candid interview with CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Jackson explained his decision to slim down, attributing it to feeling “fat” and out of shape after watching past game footage.

“I felt like I was fat,” Jackson admitted. “I just saw a video from two years ago, against the Browns, and I looked out of shape.”

When asked if he noticed a decline in his speed, Jackson responded, “My eyes might be deceiving me, but I believe I looked a little slower to me. But not now.”

Widely regarded as one of the NFL’s greatest running quarterbacks, Jackson’s sense of sluggishness likely indicated a real dip in performance.

The 2022 season was particularly challenging for him, as he missed the last six games, including a critical playoff match against the Cincinnati Bengals, due to a PCL strain.

This injury contributed to career lows in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns.

Jackson also mentioned feeling “fatigued” and slower, impacting his performance on the field.

“Just so I could move around without getting fatigued, that’s all,” he said. “I don’t know if I was getting fatigued last year. Probably if I get a first down. But I don’t like getting caught if I do decide to run, so yeah … It’s part of it.”

The decision to lose weight has paid off for Jackson. Although there is some concern that his slimmed-down body won’t hold up as well when it comes to contact.

Under the guidance of offensive coordinator Todd Monken in 2023, Jackson had a strong season, achieving career-highs in completion percentage and passing yards.

He also rushed for 821 yards and five touchdowns, earning his second career MVP award.

The Ravens finished the season with 13 victories, securing the conference’s top seed but falling short in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

As the Ravens gear up for the 2024 season, set to kick off on September 5 against those same Chiefs, Jackson hopes his improved physique will make him even more dangerous on the field.

What are your thoughts on Jackson’s slimmed-down figure?

Where do you rank him among the top quarterbacks in the league???
