Washington Provides Update On Dillon Johnson’s Status For National Championship

Despite the Sugar Bowl victory, the Washington Huskies faced a late-game setback when running back Dillon Johnson suffered an injury. Fortunately, it seems like Johnson’s absence won’t extend to the national championship game next week.

Washington’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, expressed optimism about Johnson’s availability against Michigan, stating, “There’s nothing as far as above and beyond what has happened in the past. Just kind of throughout the game he’ll re-aggravate it, shake it off and go back out there and play. I guess my thoughts are that he’ll be ready to go.”

DeBoer also emphasized that Washington will handle Johnson’s condition intelligently as they prepare for the upcoming championship clash, acknowledging the quick turnaround and the need for cautious preparation.

“Obviously it’s a quick week, quick turnaround, only seven days to get ready again. We’ll be smart with how we prepare. And again, that’s my assumption, not having talked to him today.”

Throughout the season, Johnson has been a dynamic force for Washington, accumulating 1,162 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 222 carries.

While Johnson’s status for the championship game appears promising, the Huskies know they have a reliable option in Michael Penix Jr. and the passing game if needed, given his impressive performance.
