The Detroit Lions are gearing up for the postseason with some roster adjustments, but they’ve also bid farewell to one of their experienced players.
@Lions – as a 12 year vet, thank you for the opportunity to be apart of your team- however I’m looking forward to what’s next

Linebacker Bruce Irvin, a former Super Bowl pass rusher, announced on social media that he’s parting ways with the team, signaling his departure from the roster. Irvin had been with the team’s practice squad, so his departure doesn’t immediately open up a spot on the 53-man roster.
A mutual parting on good terms for Bruce Irvin and the #Lions, who released him from the practice squad today. https://t.co/srGuqR9OSx

This decision comes as a bit of a surprise since Detroit had the option to elevate Irvin multiple times during the postseason without needing to sign him to the 53-man roster. With his veteran experience and playoff history, Irvin could have been a valuable addition and a source of veteran leadership as the team prepares for a home playoff game at Ford Field.
During his time with the Lions this season, Irvin managed to generate five pressures and record one sack in three game appearances.
As the regular season for the Lions concludes with a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, they are now looking ahead to host a playoff game at Ford Field. Currently positioned as the No. 3 seed in the NFC, the Lions are expected to face either the Rams or the Packers in the playoffs, provided they maintain their current position.
With a win against the Vikings and some losses by the Cowboys and Eagles, the Lions also have an outside chance of securing the No. 2 seed in the NFC. The team is gearing up for an exciting postseason journey.
