New Years Day provided us with the greatest day in the history of the College Football Playoff … The highlight was of course the epic Rose Bowl game which saw Michigan top Alabama in overtime.
Scenically, you’ll find very few people who disagree that the Rose Bowl is the most beautiful setting in all of college football, and perhaps all of sports period.
ESPN lead analyst Kirk Herbstreit has what many people consider a brilliant idea for the future of college football.
Taking to X, Herbie tweeted that the National Championship Game should be hosted at the Rose Bowl each and every year.
“I’ve been saying this for years and I’ll say it one more time. As the world of CFB changes in so many ways I really wish the leaders and decision makers would just make the Rose Bowl the host for the National Championship EVERY YEAR!! The setting, beauty, field, and history of that place are unparalleled. Last night was another chapter in its long and incredible history of memorable moments,” he tweeted.

Michigan and Washington will meet in Monday’s title game, which will take place at Houston’s NRG Stadium.
No offense to NRG Stadium or the city of Houston, but just imagine if that game was taking place at the Rose Bowl?
Needless to say, plenty of fans were fully behind Herbie’s idea…
“100% Even watching it on tv, the game is so much more aesthetically pleasing than watching games in those garbage domes in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc….”

“That’s why I made a point of making it to this rose bowl.
This game will never have the same feel and awe without the pac vs Big10.
This was special and a bonus that Michigan was in it.
The parade in the morning will bring a grown man to tears.”

“Great point! The baseball championship is played in the same spot every year, so why not? Definitely beats cycling through a bunch of Southern domes.”

“Agreed Kirk! It’s a great setting for a championship moment. Should be a tournament to play in the Rose as the final game.”

Interestingly, just as many were 100% AGAINST Herbie’s idea and pointed out just how outdated and inconvenient the stadium is…
“What an Elitist take…… Chauffeured to/from the games/events for FREE, Catered Food all the time for FREE, prime seating for FREE, etc. newsflash, the rose bowl is SO OVERRATED. The stadium is awful. The pregame is the most boring piece of television I think anyone can watch too.”
I agree the stadium is nostalgic but boring. Terrible getting to and leaving from. And dealing with the Commiefornia traffic is hell at best. Move on from LA and keep it in America!

“Says a guy sitting in a booth with a staff and not in the dingy stadium, going to horrible concessions, or having to walk .5 miles to take a leak in a crowded bathroom. The place is a dump as you would expect a place built in 1921!”

“If they would pour some money into the aging stadium I’d agree. But of the major bowl games, the stadium is by far the worst for the fans that attend the games.”

“California sucks. They should get rid of the rose bowl all together.”

At the end of the day, Herbie is speaking from a television perspective … He may not have taken into account just how big of a hassle the stadium is for the common fan.
“You can always tell which people don’t have to miss an entire quarter of the game waiting in line for 100-year-old bathroom facilities … For people on TV, the only thing that matters is what you see on TV.”

What do you think about Herbie’s idea?
Whose side are you on – Herbie’s or the angry in-person fans who have to deal with all the inconvenience of navigating the outdated Rose Bowl???
Can you imagine the parade?!?
