ESPN admitted that they dropped the ball, especially since the footage was reportedly pre-recorded.
“We regret that this happened and apologize that the video aired in the telecast,” ESPN said in a statement.
While the network didn’t manage to catch the unexpected moment before broadcasting it to a massive national television audience, viewers quickly noticed it and the clip went viral on social media.

As for the game, it was an absolute thriller as Washington survived a near-disaster and held on for a 37-31 win over the Texas Longhorns.
