Giants Icon Carl Banks Offers Wild Plan To Counter Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’

Carl Banks voiced his frustration with the “Brotherly Shove” play employed by the Eagles during Monday’s WFAN radio broadcast of the Giants vs. Eagles game.

The Eagles’ “Brotherly Shove” has been a hot topic in the NFL this season, sparking debates over its fairness, especially as Jalen Hurts often gains crucial yards in short-yardage situations using this maneuver.

Philadelphia has successfully utilized this play over the past two seasons, including in their recent victory over the Giants.

During the first quarter, with the Eagles positioned at the one-yard line, they resorted to the “tush push” to propel Hurts into the end zone. This move prompted Banks, aged 61, to contemplate how he would counter the “tush push” if he were still playing.

His unconventional solution? “I’d jump offsides again,” Banks declared. He justified this by noting, “It’s on the one-yard line. What are they gonna do, move it another inch?”

The Eagles later used the same play to secure a first down on a fourth-and-1 situation in the first quarter. Banks, once again, advocated for the Giants to jump early to thwart the play.

He explained, “Tell you what, I’d be jumping offsides every single play. I’d go over the top of the center and intentionally hit the quarterback until the league out-rules it until you can no longer run it again because you’re taking free shots at the quarterback.”

While Banks’ suggestion of jumping offsides didn’t generate much reaction, his idea of leaping over the center and hitting the quarterback did.

Upset Eagles fans took to social media, prompting Banks to engage in several exchanges defending his viewpoint.

Regarding the “tush push” itself, the debate rages on, much to the chagrin of certain Eagles players, including Jason Kelce, who expressed his weariness of the ongoing controversy on “The New Heights” podcast, suggesting that the play should be banned.

“Listen, ban it. I really, at this point, I don’t care,” Kelce asserted during the episode. “I’m over the discussion about it.”
