Report: Ed Reed Eyes Head Coaching Role For Prominent NCAA Football Program

Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed is eyeing the head coaching position for an NCAA football program once again. Last year, Reed was set to become the head coach of the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats football program, but they parted ways in January due to contract issues. Now, it seems Reed has his sights on the Grambling State head coaching position.

Reports from HBCU Sports suggest that Ed Reed, the Baltimore Ravens legend and Super Bowl champion, is interested in leading Grambling State’s football program. The school is currently without a coach, and sources indicate that there has been communication between Reed and Grambling regarding the position.

Former Grambling State head coach Hue Jackson, who previously coached in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns, recently parted ways with the Tigers after two years in charge. Jackson posted an 8-14 record during his tenure.

Ed Reed, a nine-time Pro Bowler and the 2004 Defensive Player of the Year, has experience in coaching roles. He served as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2016, was Chief of Staff for his alma mater, the Miami Hurricanes, from 2020 to 2021, and worked as a senior advisor for the program in 2022.

Reed’s friend and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders, has also transitioned into NCAA coaching. Sanders completed his fourth season as a head coach, first at Jackson State for three years and then at the Colorado Buffaloes, where he led them to a 4-8 record this year.
