Astros GM Confirms No Plans To Trade 3B Alex Bregman

The Houston Astros are making it clear that they have no intention of trading star third baseman Alex Bregman, despite his impending free agency after the 2024 season. Astros general manager Dana Brown addressed the speculation surrounding Bregman’s future during a press conference at the winter meetings in Nashville, Tennessee.

Brown emphasized that Bregman is a vital part of the team and referred to him as a “pillar for this club.” While there have been no recent contract extension negotiations with Bregman, Brown expressed confidence that discussions would eventually take place with Bregman’s agent.

Bregman, a two-time All-Star, had a solid 2023 season, batting .262 with 25 home runs and 98 RBIs. He is set to earn $28.5 million in the upcoming season, completing a five-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Astros in 2019.

In his eight-year career with the Astros, Bregman has maintained a .274 batting average, hit 165 home runs, and recorded 588 RBIs. Alongside key teammates like Jose Altuve and Kyle Tucker, Bregman played a crucial role in the Astros’ journey to their seventh consecutive American League Championship Series, ultimately falling to the Texas Rangers in seven games.
