Despite Matt Eberflus leading the Chicago Bears to two victories in their last three games, the team is actively exploring potential replacements for the head coaching position.
Of course, no decision has been made, but it’s no secret that Eberflus is on thin ice and the odds of him surviving in Chicago aren’t pretty.
According to CBS NFL insider Josina Anderson, among the names under consideration is Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
“The Bears are expected to have interest in Bieniemy as a possible head coach this offseason,” Anderson reported – adding that Eberflus is currently “under evaluation.”
I’m told the Chicago #Bears are expected to have interest in #Commanders assistant head coach/ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, among others, with general knowledge that current HC Matt Eberflus is under evaluation with the team at 4-8, per source. pic.twitter.com/eZCMvjDbF6

The 54-year-old Bieniemy is in his first season as Washington’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator after a successful five-year stint as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator.
His future with the Commanders may hinge on the fate of current head coach Ron Rivera, who’s expected to be fired as soon as the season ends (if not prior).
The potential interest in Bieniemy arises from his offensive background, particularly overseeing two MVP seasons by Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
This is in stark contrast to Eberflus, who comes from a defensive background.
Eberflus, who arrived with the Bears in 2022, has struggled mightily with a 7-22 overall record.

Bieniemy also has a notable connection with the Bears current general manager, Ryan Poles, who spent 13 years with the Chiefs.
Poles and Bieniemy’s history together could play a significant role in the coaching decision-making process.
If Andy doesn’t axe Matt Nagy , and Eric Bieniemy becomes Bears HC, could Patrick Mahomes be coming to Chicago !
Pros for Patrick:
1. Better Fanbase
2. HC that needs wins
3. More guys who can catch
4. More stardom for family
5. More local investments
6. More fun!
