Cleveland Browns Announce Major Change In Quarterback Position

Ahead of their crucial Week 13 away game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Cleveland Browns have made a significant adjustment to their quarterback lineup. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, has declared Joe Flacco as the backup quarterback, right behind the starting QB Dorion Thompson-Robinson. With Thompson-Robinson currently in concussion protocol, Flacco is set to lead the team on Sunday if the rookie is not medically cleared to play.

Stefanski expressed confidence in Flacco’s capabilities, noting, “Big, strong arm. Obviously, he can make every throw. He’s done a very nice job in the meeting room, getting to know his teammates, getting to know the system. He’s done a nice job,” as quoted by ESPN’s Jake Trotter.

Flacco, an experienced player familiar with Cleveland, was the Baltimore Ravens’ starting quarterback from 2008 to 2018. During his tenure, he encountered the AFC North Browns 21 times, boasting an impressive 18-3 record against them, with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The Browns, currently holding the top defense in the league and a 7-4 record, are in a promising position to secure their second playoff appearance in four years under Stefanski. However, with a challenging schedule ahead, the team’s postseason fate hinges on improved quarterback performance.

Previously, Flacco played three seasons with the New York Jets, where he had a 1-8-0 record in nine starts, throwing 14 touchdowns against just six interceptions. His experience and track record will be crucial for the Browns as they navigate the rest of the season.
