A Fascinating Candidate Has Reportedly Emerged In The Raiders Coaching Search…

Almost a month after the sudden firing of Josh McDaniels on November 1st, the question on every Raiders fan’s mind remains the same: Who will take the helm as the new (permanent) head coach?

Antonio Pierce has done a very respectable job in his interim role thus far … But is he a realistic option to take over permanently?

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, former Stanford head coach David Shaw is emerging as a significant contender in the organization’s search.

“David Shaw is a name to keep an eye on in the Raiders coaching search,” Bonsignore reported.

Shaw is a respected coach who many hold in high regard. He boasts an impressive coaching record, going 96-54 in his 12 seasons at Stanford.

Prior to his successful stint at the college level, Shaw spent nine seasons as an assistant coach in the NFL. His journey included roles as a quality control coach for the Eagles in 1997 and a similar position with the Raiders from 1998-2000.

He later earned a promotion to quarterbacks coach for the Raiders in 2001.

The Broncos had previously interviewed Shaw for their head coaching position earlier this year, but the pursuit ended when they traded for Sean Payton.

Meanwhile, Pierce, who took over as the Raiders interim head coach, has led the team to a 2-2 record since McDaniels’ departure … He will most likely interview formally for the permanent position after the season concludes.

Addressing his mindset for the rest of the season, Pierce stated: “I’ve got five weeks to get right. If I don’t get right, I’ll have a lot more time off.”

Despite a current record of 5-7, the Raiders remain in the playoff hunt, adding further intensity and anticipation to the ongoing coaching search.

Yes, they have plenty of holes on the roster and lack overall leadership and direction. However, they have plenty of talent to build around – and a new, capable head coach would go a long way towards getting the best out of the team.

What are your thoughts on the Raiders?

Do you think they should go after Shaw?

Or has Pierce earned the right to be the permanent head coach???
