Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are facing the loss of two quarterback commitments in a short span, with Danny O’Neil becoming the latest to de-commit, joining Antwann Hill Jr. in this decision, as reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Antwann Hill Jr. made his de-commitment announcement earlier on a Sunday, and within a day, Danny O’Neil followed suit.
O’Neil, a 2024 recruit who had verbally committed to joining the Buffaloes in March, had a close connection with offensive coordinator Sean Lewis. However, it appears that Sanders’ decision to take over play-calling duties may have influenced O’Neil’s change of heart.
O’Neil is ranked as the No. 34 quarterback by 247Sports, making him a sought-after prospect.
Following his de-commitment, Northwestern is reportedly in the mix as a potential destination. Before initially committing to Colorado, O’Neil had received scholarship offers from several schools, including Cincinnati, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo, and Wake Forest.

Mike O’Neil, Danny’s father, noted that the landscape of college programs and coaches could undergo significant changes in the coming days.
Over the summer, O’Neil participated in the Elite 11 Finals. He achieved considerable success at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, where he led his team to a state championship. During his high school career, he passed for 7,786 yards and 98 touchdowns with a completion rate of 62 percent. Additionally, he rushed for 1,326 yards and scored 27 touchdowns himself.
