REPORT: Aggressive NL Club Is Very Intrigued At The Thought Of Adding Rhys Hoskins…

Due largely to injuries, things unfortunately have not worked out for the talented Rhys Hoskins in Philadelphia.

Now a free-agent, Hoskins is searching for a new home and what could possibly be a Cody Bellinger type “prove-it” deal.

According to a report by Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, it has been revealed that the Chicago Cubs are considering Hoskins and look at the first baseman as a “good fit for their roster.”

The duo highlighted that the Cubs find him attractive due to his postseason experience and potential willingness to sign a short-term contract.

Hoskins’ agent Scott Boras hinted at the possibility of a “pillow contract” for his client during the GM Meetings last week (similar to Bellinger’s with the Cubs).

Hoskins, however, faces a unique situation in free agency, having missed the entire 2023 season due to an ACL tear in Spring Training.

Furthermore, staying with the Phillies seems unlikely, as Bryce Harper has permanently moved to first base, and Kyle Schwarber is set to be the everyday designated hitter for the Phillies.

The Cubs, unlike many teams, are actively seeking an upgrade at first base this offseason.

The expected departure of Bellinger would leave a massive void … Chicago has contemplated giving young power hitter Christopher Morel a chance at first base, but Hoskins remains a viable option, especially considering Morel’s limited experience at the position.

Adding Hoskins to the Cubs lineup would bring another right-handed power bat, addressing the team’s need for offensive production.

While the Cubs are a potential fit for Hoskins, other teams such as the Brewers, Padres, Mariners, Astros, and Angels are also expected to be interested.

What do you think?

Should the Cubs pursue Hoskins???
