ESPN Suggests a Potential Quarterback Trade Between the Cowboys and Broncos

According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the Denver Broncos are considering Trey Lance as a potential quarterback solution. Lance, the former No. 3 pick, could be an ideal fit for the Broncos if they are looking to move away from the Russell Wilson contract.

The Dallas Cowboys, who recently acquired Lance for a fourth-round pick, might be willing to part ways with him if they could land a linebacker who would help them compete for the top seed in the NFC and get back some of their draft capital 1. Lance is currently third on the Dallas quarterback depth chart, and it is likely that Dak Prescott will sign an extension next offseason, cutting off Lance’s path to a starting job.

For Sean Payton and the Broncos, Lance would be a project and a potential long-term quarterback solution if Payton grows weary of Russell Wilson. Lance would have a clearer path to reps as early as the end of the 2023 season, and his contract would be a low-cost, high-upside option for a team that lacks both draft capital and cap space.

While it’s hard to imagine that acquiring Lance would put an end to Denver’s offensive woes, it’s certainly worth considering if you’re the Broncos who could use a young, developmental QB behind the 34-year-old Wilson.

For now, the Broncos will look to build on their recent success as they head to Arrowhead.
