REPORT: The NFL Is Looking To Expand Games To THESE 2 Countries…

NFL executives have their sights set on further global expansion, with plans underway for more international games next season.

Of course, the NFL has played games in England, Mexico, and as of last year, Germany.

The league’s executive vice president, Peter O’Reilly, recently emphasized the ongoing efforts to explore potential host countries, revealing that the NFL is actively considering Brazil and/or Spain for regular-season games.

“We’re looking at Brazil and Spain based on the size of the fanbases there,” O’Reilly stated, highlighting the significant potential for growth in these markets.

He also emphasized the unique appeal of the German market, pointing to the history of NFL Europe and the enduring popularity of American football in the region.

The NFL’s international push is not without careful planning. According to a report by Eric Fisher of Front Office Sports, the decision regarding the upcoming international game is expected to be announced in December or January, after a meticulous review process.

Adam Schefter of ESPN previously reported that the NFL has been scouting potential venues in Spain, examining the possibility of hosting games at Real Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano.

O’Reilly underscored the significance of both the Spanish and Brazilian markets, emphasizing their strength and importance to the league’s global strategy.

“Spain and Brazil are strong and important markets,” O’Reilly noted. “You’ve got some classic soccer clubs around the world who are really interested in hosting the NFL and building a relationship with the NFL. So the marriage of those two – there’s interests there for sure, and it’s just determining the timing and the approach.”

The NFL’s international endeavors have been steadily gaining momentum since the league’s inaugural London game in 2007.

In recent years, the NFL has also made significant strides in Mexico, hosting multiple games between 2016 and 2022.

Despite the current absence of games in Mexico due to stadium renovations at Estadio Azteca ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the league remains committed to its global expansion plans.

With three games already played in London this fall and two more scheduled in Germany next month, the NFL’s strategic efforts to expand its global reach are stronger than ever.

How do you feel about the NFL trying to “globalize” the sport?
