The Colorado fairy-tale officially died on Friday night when the Buffs inexplicably blew a 29-0 lead to the worst team in the Pac-12, the Stanford Cardinal.
Love him or hate him, Deion Sanders knows how to draw eyeballs – and that’s exactly what he’s done during the course of his debut season in Boulder.
There’s a portion of college football fans who are annoyed by Coach Prime’s cockiness and take great enjoyment when his words and actions blow up in his face.
His team has taken on his same exact attitude…
The Buffs are filled with players who seem to be more interested in their own personal “brand” than actually winning football games.

Nothing sums it up better than quarterback Shedeur Sanders advertising his own personal “merch” at halftime of Friday night’s game…

Besides blowing the 29-0 lead, Sanders threw a back-breaking interception which for all intents and purposes cost the Buffs the game as they fell to Stanford 46-43 in double overtime.

The epic collapse provided plenty of material – not just for Colorado-haters, but the writers at Saturday Night Live as well.
During SNL’s Weekend Update segment, Kenan Thompson portrayed Coach Prime while wearing his trademark hoodie and sunglasses.
“You don’t understand that my team has it all, man … Coaching: Genius. Offense: Explosive. Defense: Trying. It’s the complete package!” Thompson (as Deion) said.

Asked about the blown 29-0 lead, Thompson said: “Wasn’t that crazy?! … Man, we were up 29-0 at the half. So I went home and fell asleep. I woke up this morning as shocked as anyone.”
The allure of the Coach Prime has transcended college football to a certain degree.
Despite not being a great team, the Buffs continuously pull in big ratings … Their 42-6 blowout loss against Oregon on September 23rd became the most-watched game of the season, with over 10 million viewers on ABC.
Even their late-night victory over Colorado State, which concluded well past 2am EST, raked in an astonishing 9.3 million viewers.
The loss to Stanford drops Colorado’s record to 4-3. With five challenging games remaining, the Buffs hopes to qualify for a bowl game are in serious jeopardy.
Having said that, Coach Prime is expected to have an enormous impact in recruiting. He’s clearly building something at Colorado.
While some people may have gotten a little ahead of themselves, Prime knows the program is very much a work-in-progress … And it’s a work in progress that people will be watching very closely.
